American Platinum Eagle
The first and only platinum bullion coin offered by the United States is the American Platinum Eagle. This coin was added to the American Eagle bullion coin program in 1997 to provide a method for investing in platinum bullion.
Each Platinum Eagle coin contains 99.95% and has the weight, purity, and content guaranteed by the United States government. Coins are issued in different fractional weights, each with a different face value. The coins include 1 oz face value $100, 1/2 oz face value $50, 1/4 oz face value $25, and 1/10 oz face value $10.
Proof Platinum Eagles have also been produced for collectors, each year since the start of the series. From 2006 to 2008, collectible uncirculated Platinum Eagles were additionally offered.
